EIZO Sakamoto is an important figure in the history of Japanese heavy metal. Starting out in the mid-‘80s as the vocalist of ANTHEM, he made his most significant career move in 1996 when he first fronted ANIMETAL, the band that would popularize the “anison metal” genre. In 2000, Sakamoto re-joined ANTHEM, ending his fourteen-year tenure in 2014.
Aside from his band activities, as a solo performer, Sakamoto has become a major ambassador for Japanese metal, playing concert in locales often all but ignored by major bands.
