The history of Madeth gray'll began in 1997, with Hisui, Yukina, Shizuru and Hizumi.
Hisui (who was called KEI at the time) and Yukina were the two main elements of the band, being the only ones to see it through from the beginning to the end. Hisui was the one who wrote all the lyrics, while he and Yukina both composed the music. They met thanks to Shizuru who was with Hisui in Vierge and Yukina (guitarist at the time) in L~CYFER.
The band did not have an official drummer until the following year, but that didn't prevent them from released four demo tapes, limited to 300 releases of each, at the beginning of November to the end of December.
At the beginning of 1998, singer KEI dropped his pseudo name and went back to being Hisui. March was a very productive month for them, as they released another three demo tapes in the space of one week, followed up by another on April 4th that contained six songs, including two new ones and a normal version of kyoushi kyoku. Limited to 1500 copies on the first release, it was later re-released with 2000 copies in June. Although it seemed that they were heading upwards and onwards, a double disaster struck in May 1998.
The first disaster was national: the death of hide. Japan lost one of its biggest stars. The second disaster, and one that touched Madeth gray'll more personally, was the death of their guitarist Hizumi a few days later in a car accident as he was headed to hide's funeral. Ironically, Hizumi's previous group was called vie eternele (French: eternal life).
The band was motivated to continue and decided to ask their first drummer, Tsubaki to join with them officially. In honor of the memory of Hizumi, they re-released a song that had been composed a few months before his death: Hakuchu yume no sangeki. The CD was released in two versions, a white and a black version, which were distributed at their lives on August 8th and 9th. At the same time, they also offered the music video for Parasite. Then, as if marking their return after a great blow, they released their first real CD single, Juujika no ketsumatsu..., the following day.
Unfortunately, in the months that followed, things did not go so well. Shizuru and Tsubaki left the band, leaving Hisui and Yukina alone with the band. However, Madeth gray'll did not give up, and ends this catastrophic year by releasing the video Rasen kaiden to kioku.
1999 was the year that saw them revived, because Kisaki created a new label to sign and help beginner bands. This was an opportunity that they seized, and so you can find them on the first Matina compilation, New age culture. After deciding that it would be good to rebuild Madeth gray'll, Hisui and Yukina recruited new guitarist Izumi, who played alongside Ruiza in Distray, before Ruiza was part of Kisaki's band Syndrome and after that, D.
With Izumi they recorded the single Juujika no ketsumatsu ～dai ni no higeki～ that was released on June 30th, and another single, MOTHER COMPLEX which was distributed for free during their concert on August 9th 1999. During this concert they had a new guitarist, Ukyou. Unfortunately, Ukyou was not part of the band for very long.
However, 2000 was a year of dedication for them, and left them with some good memories of Matina. With new drummer Reika, who joined them in October, they released their first album Lucifer, which was a great success and was eventually released three times. Through this year, they had an unofficial support guitarist called Airi. This was Airi's first band, but Yukina was tired by all the problems they had encountered and decided to leave the band. The other members didn't want to continue without him and decided to completely disband Madeth gray'll. The announcement was made on November 28th by Hisui during a live and a special single was sold there in memory of the band. In spite of that, the following day they released a mini album, Boukai No mato ~Entith marge~ and Airi became an official member for the last few weeks of the band's existence. They separated at a live on January 29th, 2001 where they offered a live video to go with their memorial album, which was released the following day.
