In the summer of 2000, Koda Kumi's 15-year-old little sister misono participated in a vocalist audition. The famous record label Avex were searching for a vocalist as they were putting together a new band. misono was selected and and together with songwriter and guitarist Kitano Masato and Suzuki Daisuke the band lineup for day after tomorrow was completed.
Their producer at this time was Igarashi Mitsuru, a member of the band Every Little Thing. In August 2002, their first releases with their producer, a DVD and single faraway, and the mini-album dayaftertomorrow went on sale.
Shortly after, they performed at the Avex summerfesta 2002. The band also performed a secret live at the Takeshita Dori in Harajuku, as well as performing additional concerts in Japan, and even in South Korea. Even more concerts followed, and in November they released their second mini-album dayaftertomorrow II, which ranked 3rd on the charts.
On New Years Eve, the band received an award for 'Rookie of the year', a mere five months after their initial debut.
In March 2003 they released their long anticipated first full album elements. It went on to reach the top three in the charts. Two months later they had their first big tour entitled 1stLiveTour ~elements~ and performed in cities including Osaka, Tokyo and Nagoya. More releases followed, amongst them the single moongate which stayed in the top 10 for five weeks.
In Autumn they toured again, and in December they released their next single Dear friends/It’s my way, which ranked 2nd in the charts, which was the highest chart position that the band ever achieved.
During the Spring of 2004, the band released their second full album Primary Colors, before taking a short break of about six months which ended with the release of their ninth single lost angel.
2005 brought forth the release of their third album Day Alone. But soon after in August, fans were disappointed when day after tomorrow announced that they would be taking an 'indefinite hiatus', or to put it more simply: they would disband. They released a pair of obligatory best-of albums: Complete Best and the Singles Best, which were none the less very popular. In 2006, another best-of album came out.
Since the band ceased activities misono has started a solo career which began soon after day after tomorrow broke up. The two other members, Kitano and Suzuki also continued their activities as songwriter and composer.
