GACKT formed YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz in March 2010 in order to “create more manly men” in Japan and “transform the herbivore boys to carnivorous men.” Due to this, originally only men were invited to attend the band’s concerts. Their first live took place on March 21st at Kawasaki Club Citta. In May, the men-only live was released on DVD.

On June 23rd, the compilation album ARE YOU “FRIED CHICKENz”?? was released. However, it was released under GACKT’s name rather than as a band release and contained only GACKT’s songs. Also, no new songs were played during concerts.

A few months later, during the tour lasting from June 10th to August 29th, it was decided that women were allowed to attend YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz’s men-only lives. The band gave twenty-four lives and also travelled to Europe. Their European tour included lives in the UK, France, Germany and Spain. The Japanese part of the tour ended with two special shows for which attendees were asked to wear specific clothes. On August 28th, fans had to wear an additional layer of clothes and on August 29th only swimsuits were allowed. Both lives took place at Zepp Tokyo. The tours, including the European dates, gathered a total of 65,000 fans.

In February 2011, their second live DVD YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz Kirameki Otokojuku -Danjo Konyoku Mizugi Matsuri- was released. A live album and DVD with footage from the European tour then hit the stores in April. As well as this, GACKT and the other members of YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz got involved in charity work to help victims of the earthquake and tsunami that occurred in March 2011. Part of the proceeds from YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz’s activities went to various charity foundations, helping children who lost their homes in the disaster.

June 2011 saw big changes for YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz. During a press conference held on June 9th, the band's new members were introduced. From then on, the renewed YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz included twin vocals and triple guitars. Shinya, from the legendary band LUNA SEA, also became the drummer. The two guitarists You and Chachamaru, who worked with GACKT for many years, were joined by third guitarist TAKUMI, who has collaborated with MIYAVI, SUGIZO, T.M.Revolution and AKB48 to name a few. U-ZO, from the band RIZE, became YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz’s bassist and JON from fade became the second vocalist. The press conference was a travesty and showed the new direction of the band which supposed to entertain the audience and provide fun shows rather than serious performances.

The band launched a world tour titled SHOW UR SOUL I, a reference to GACKT’s charity project SHOW YOUR HEART. A part of the proceeds from this tour were donated to the foundation. The group visited nine countries in Europe then returned to Japan, where they held nineteen lives. The tour was wrapped up with a live at Makuhari Messe Event Hall in Chiba.

One of the pros of the renewed YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz was the new material the band was creating, although they continued to use GACKT's songs appropriately adapted for two vocalists. The first new song recorded by YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz was THE END OF THE DAY. The single was released on September 14th and was used in the online RPG game Dragon Nest.

On October 23rd, 2011, YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz took part in V-ROCK FESTIVAL at Saitama Super Arena, performing alongside other popular artists of the visual kei scene. The band released a new double A-side single titled ALL MY LOVE / YOU ARE THE REASON on December 28th.

In March 2012, the band released their first, and only, full-length album, YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz. The following month saw the release of two DVDs containing footage from the SHOW UR SOUL I final at Makuhari Messe Event Hall and their live in Berlin.

Unfortunately, after their live in Nippon Budokan on July 4th, the band decided to stop their activities and the members returned to their original bands and solo projects.
