Converse has created Three Artists. One Song project to bring together very different artists to create an original music track. Several infamous artists have already participated in this project, and to name a few:
Mark Foster (
Foster the People),
Kimbra,
A-Track,
Gorillaz,
James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) and
Andre 3000 (
OutKast).
Converse is widening their project to include the Asia Pacific region. The three Korean participants are the long standing indie rock figure
Jaurim, the hip-hop trio
Aziatix and the electro-punk trio
Idiotape, who has garnered quite a lot of attention; The group won the Best Electronic Dance Album award in the 2012 Korean Music Awards with their release
11111101, gaining many accolades from the critics.
The collaboration track of these three bands is entitled
#PeepShow, which is a commentary on youth and pop culture. The track is available as a free download at
play.converse.com. With this song, the artists bring together their musical creativity and diversity. The music video for the track will be aired via
converse.com this June.
DGURU of
Idiotape commented that they were excited to be part of the project and bringing the new concept to the Asia Pacific region. They were able to create a very unique sound by dismissing all the limitations that instruments and musical genres could set for them.
Eddie Shin of
Aziatix then expressed his view, Converse's attempt to embrace the rebellion and self-expression of its youthful audience. “With
#PeepShow we wanted to elevate this young voice and inspire creativity among music fans in Korea and beyond.”
The artists also spoke at a Q&A session about the project.
How did you get involved in the Converse Three Artists. One Song project?
Aziatix: We love the concept behind Three Artists. One Song, and the notion of bringing different artists together to create something new. We are excited to be chosen as part of Asia’s first Three Artists. One Song project and at the opportunity to work with such a talented roster of artists to bring this creative program to life.
What was your inspiration for this project?
Idiotape: For the Three Artists. One Song project, we kept imagining what it would look and feel like having
Jaurim,
Aziatix and
Idiotape together on stage, and that helped bring out the inspiration behind
#PeepShow.
Was there any specific musical direction for “#PeepShow,” the Three Artists. One Song original song?
Jaurim: As artists, we’re inspired by the Converse brand's mission of supporting creativity. By mixing our different music styles and genres, we in turn hope to inspire young people to unleash their own creativity.
Aziatix: Since the Three Artists. One Song project is a brand new concept in Korea, we wanted to show people a new, fresh and original track.
What was your specific role in creating this unique track? Can you elaborate a bit more on the music process?
Idiotape: We built the structure behind the track and by exploring various genres and instruments, we came up with a very unique sound.
Aziatix: Converse celebrates a rebellious young audience and the notion of self-expression. With the rap lyrics we wrote for
#PeepShow, we wanted to elevate this young voice and inspire this audience further.
How does it feel to collaborate with three different and unique artists?
Aziatix: From the moment we started working on this project, we wanted to learn how the different collaborators take direction in creating music and about their work process. This has brought a new perspective to the way we see music.
What do you hope to achieve with this music collaboration?
Idiotape: Three artists coming together to create something completely new – that’s the ultimate example of self-expression. With this collaboration, we would like to show the world that mixing these elements can be truly awesome and inspire people to take this idea even further.
