Summer has been tough in South Korea. The temperatures rise up to 30°C outside one day and fall to 22°C the next when the rain pours down over the peninsula. But especially on those hot and muggy days, what's better than going to look for refreshing Gelato? Even better when it's JYJ's Yoochun's Timeout Gelato in Apgujeong. Apgujeong is one of the upscale shopping districts in Seoul and popular amongst younger people for taking walks and spotting celebrities.
Timeout Gelato is located on a side street a little a way from all the fun but on your way there. In order to get there, get off at Apgujeong Station on line number 3 (orange line). Go out of Exit 5 and walk up to the first side street on your left, turn there and voila, it's just right there. A lot of times there are cars in front of it, but it's not hard to find. On the weekends it gets more crowded than during the week, but you'll most likely always find a place to sit. The people working there speak a little English and Japanese and are very friendly towards their customers.
The selection is wide, like Melon, Watermelon, Dark Chocolate, Blueberry Cheesecake, Strawberry and special flavours like Orange Chocolate, making 24 flavours all together. The portions are big and the gelato is very creamy, thus worth the money. The cheapest is a Kid's cup for 2,500 Won, but they just sell it to children. The regular cup is made up of 2 choices of flavours and costs 4,500 Won.The prices go up until 13,000Won for the Family cup but it also includes 5 flavours. If anyone does not want gelato, they also have a variety of coffee and other drinks for the usual Korean prices on their menu.
The interior of the shop is decorated with pictures of Yoochun and recently also pictures of Yoohwan have been added. Also set pictures of Yoochuns latest drama "Rooftop Prince" are hanging on the walls now. Next to the counter there's also a cabinet filled with gifts from fans but also displaying goods the customers can buy, like phone straps, cups, blankets etc. A TV is also set up in a corner, showing video footage of JYJ concerts and music videos, mostly with a focus on Yoochun. It is definitely worth coming by if you're around the area or a big fan of JYJ, as the prices don't vary much from other cafes serving gelato.
Also talking about JYJ, it's worth mentioning here that Junsu's dad's pizza restaurant Misarang shut down a few months ago, so there's no need for a long journey out of Seoul sadly.
