Bringing their first album release, indie idol group LONDON BLUE deliver a collection of songs themed around UK rock and bubblegum pop in "We are LONDON BLUE".
Fusing pop and rock together, indie idol group LONDON BLUE bring out their first album and third release overall, We are LONDON BLUE. Made up of four members, guitarist Misaki, bassist Kaoru, pianist Riyo and drummer Kana, LONDON BLUE aim to produce music that mixes both bubblegum pop and UK rock, whilst also aiming to expand their own tastes in music the more they perform.
Made up of 11 tracks, We are LONDON BLUE comes in two editions, Types A and B, and offers fans a cool and cute mix of tunes to enjoy, ranging from idol pop to nostalgic rockabilly sounds. The album includes their first single, ROCK ME SHOCK ME, a select few B-sides from their past two singles, as well as the featured album track, MIDNIGHT LOVER.
Songs to look out for on this album include the featured track, MIDNIGHT LOVER, a memorable and upbeat pop song that has raw and catchy elements and delivers a great deal of energy and entertainment throughout. Remember You, the fourth track, is just as enjoyable with a chorus and a bridge that stand out especially.
Dreaming Now, listed as the seventh track, is one of the most interesting songs on the album thanks to its rockabilly style and almost patriotic opening. This is a highly memorable and positive track and one of the best on the album, standing out amongst the other songs. Angie is also highly memorable and keeps that rock sound and feel, though at times the vocals can be hard to hear, especially when a solo hits. Regardless of this, it is a great song and has a strong sound.
Ninth track Nanatsu no umi to sora is more of an idol tune than any, although it does include a few British pop-rock elements. Its energy and cute sound are undeniably entertaining. It does a good job of bringing together UK rock and bubblegum pop styles, merging 'cool and cute' rather well. ROCK ME SHOCK ME stands as the penultimate track, and is a genuinely fun song with an uplifting, positive feel.
Overall, We are LONDON BLUE is a wonderfully diverse album, mixing pop and rock together quite effectively. The songs are all enjoyable, although some might fall flat for listeners because of the vocal quality. Whilst the raw, imperfect vocals might work for some songs, they do not work for them all. That said, it is great to see that element of 'realness' throughout this album and to hear what works and what does not. It's a good first album and is sure to entertain anyone who enjoys both idol and UK rock.
