The trio talked about their Latin American tour, impressions about Brazil and future plans for 2014.
On April 18th, LUNAFLY performed for the first time in Brazil, wrapping up their successful Latin American tour. Earlier, before the show, the trio took part on a press conference in which they talked about the tour, their impressions about Brazil and future plans for 2014.
Which place in Latin America you felt more comfortable? Which show touched you the most?
SAM: Actually, I think all of them were comfortable. We were very happy in every country we visited. Brazil is a little bit different from the others, I think. The language is different. I have tried to learn Portuguese. I’m very bad, I would like to speak but… but Brazil is very very comfortable. About the most touching concert so far… I thing all of them were very very touching. Everybody were so passionate, singing along with us and we hope today we can hear Sao Paulo doing the same.
Do you intend to come for the World Cup?
SAM: Can you invite us? I wanna come! (laughs) When is the World Cup? June? Are we busy in June? Maybe… We would love to come. But we need a place to stay. Do you have a spare room? (laughs) We really would love to.
How does it felt coming to such a different country? Did you like the Brazilian heat? How was the reception here?
YUN: Before coming here, I thought the whole Latin America only spoke Spanish. When I arrived I noticed that some countries spoke Spanish, Brazil speaks Portuguese and it was very different to me. I thought since Brazil is a tropical country here would be always hot, so I only brought short-sleeved clothes. However, I found out the winter is close and at night is very cold. (laughs) Ah, Brazilian girls are very beautiful!
TEO: Thank you! (in Portuguese) (laughs)
Do you compose your songs? Do you have some composing source of inspiration?
SAM: Yes, we write our music, most of it. Sometimes we receive songs from friends of us but we write almost everything. We like to write songs that girls like so we think about that a lot.
YUN: Many guys like our music too.
SAM: I think there are many guys who like our songs as well. I don’t know, what do you think about? I think it is different for every single song. Normally we try to take very small details in life and transform them in a big event. For example, one of our song is about just eat some lunch with a girl and it is a very small thing. We try to turn it into a romantic story.
When LUNAFLY started, you had acoustic songs. In your album, you change to pop and in your last mini-album you change again, now to electronic music. Why these changes? Will you continue changing?
SAM: Who knows? I think the important thing is that we are musicians and artists, so I think it’s important to keep changing things. As a musician, you don’t wanna get bored and stable. You want keep making new things. This time, TEO really wants to be a DJ and do with electronic music, so we started to use it in our songs. Maybe the next song can be acoustic, we don’t know yet, so it could be… hip-hop? (laughs) Dancing? No, nobody wants that, I think. Nobody wants to see us dancing. (laughs) So it could be everything, really!
What was your first impression about Brazil? What was the first good impression?
SAM: I’ll be honest, we are men, right? The women are very very beautiful here! (laughs) We immediately fell in love with Brazil! (laughs) I wanna live here! (laughs)
TEO: Thank you! (in Portuguese) (laughs)
You have a song called Superhero. If you could be a superhero, which powers would you like to have? Why?
YUN e TEO: Teleportation!
SAM: Why?
TEO: Because I think it’s very comfortable to me because I’m very lazy. (laughs) Thank you! (in Portuguese) (laughs)
YUN: I would like to have the power to talk in all languages. It would be great because we visit many countries.
SAM: I used to dream I was Spider Man when I was very young. I would have many arms, so I could play three guitars at the same time. I would look freaky but the sound would be good. Many arms!
TEO: Thank you! (in Portuguese) (laughs)
What do you think is the LUNAFLY’s strongest point that differentiates you from other K-pop groups?
SAM: YUN’s face! (laughs)
TEO: Thank you! (in Portuguese) (laughs)
SAM: You won’t get a better face than this. (laughs)
TEO: Dancing! (laughs)
YUN and SAM: I think that maybe we have a very cool color. When we unite our voices you can say who is singing. When you hear me, you know it’s SAM. When you hear TEO it’s the same. I think it is very important for an artist to have a very strong vocal color. The fact we write our own music is a very important point as well.
TEO: Thank you! (in Portuguese) (laughs)
SAM: Oh! The fact that we sing in different languages as well. We try to!
There are a few bands that can come to Latin America with such a short time since their debut. How are you feeling with the cultural differences that you encountered on this tour?
SAM: Yeah, that’s true.
YUN: We are very lucky! In our trio we have SAM who is British. As he speaks English and we post many covers on YouTube, our communication with overseas fans is easier.
What is your expectations regarding you Brazilian fans on tonight’s showcase? What is the difference between Brazilian and Korean fans?
SAM: As we said, we think Brazilian women are very beautiful! (laughs)
TEO: It’s a very strong point! (laughs)
SAM: I don’t know. We have been visiting many many countries now and I think all fans have similarities. They all are very passionate about our music, which is such a good thing to us. We feel beloved. So we hope Brazilians fans be the same. Since now, in all Latin America countries everyone was so loud, they sang every song that we perform. So we expect the same from Brazilian fans.
TEO: Thank you! (in Portuguese) (laughs)
What music means to you?
TEO: Music is music. (laughs)
SAM: What are you talking about? (r laughs)
YUN: Music is like a girlfriend.
SAM: Why?
YUN: Because when we miss it, we want to hear it, see it… We miss it. When we aren’t with music, we are more depressed.
SAM: I think music is like a wife! (laughs)
YUN and TEO: Why?
SAM: I’m not married but… (laughs) You can never leave the music. (laughs)
TEO: I think music is like my grandmother. (laughs)
SAM: Because it’s getting old! (laughs)
TEO: It’s because I love her. Hello grandmother! (laughs)
SAM: She is no watching!
TEO: Now she is sleeping.
SAM: I don’t think she watches Brazilian TV…
TEO: Thank you! (in Portuguese) (laughs)
If each of you had the opportunity to collaborate with an artist, who will it be?
SAM: So many!
YUN: Pitbull! Do you know? (they sing a stretch of Pitbull’s song I Know You Want Me). I like him.
TEO: Girls’ Generation.
SAM: Why?
TEO: Because they are beautiful. (laughs)
SAM: Just beautiful?
TEO: Yeah.
SAM: For me, I was always a fan of Shakira when I was very young.
YUN: Shakira? Will I Am!
SAM: Will I Am is also good. I like Will I Am. Ah, of course, we covered a Mexican artist, I don’t know if you know, Reik and Jesse & Joy. We love them as well, they are great artists.
TEO: Thank you! (in Portuguese) (laughs)
You probably had expectation about the Latin American tour. It reach your expectations? It was better or worst than you imagine?
SAM: Definitely, it was better than ours expectations, so much better because we never realize that we had fans here. And it has been amazing. We have so many people coming to watch us… In Mexico City, specially, we had almost four thousand people coming to see us. Things like that is very touching for us because we just didn’t know. We are very boring. We are always in studio, making music… We don’t know if we have fans, where we have fans, so is always a surprise where we go. It has been so much better than we thought and we want to come back very very soon.
TEO: Thank you! (in Portuguese) (laughs)
What are your plans for 2014? What should we expect?
SAM: We have so many plans… We are very busy now. After Brazil, we go to Korea and we will have a new single, I think, if our boss is nice with us. (laughs) YUN and TEO will be acting but no me! (laughs)
TEO: Many things… Drama, movie… Maybe…
SAM: He is not sure. He wants to do chicken restaurants adverts.
You should do this in Brazil. We have many chicken restaurants.
SAM: K-pop Chicken? We went there in our first day here. You should convince them to use us. (laughs) So what will we do besides acting and music?
TEO: World Tour! Europe tour!
SAM: Ah! We want to go to Europe! And you will see these guys acting. Will be amazing.
TEO: Thank you! (in Portuguese) (laughs)
KoME would like to thank Realize Eventos to make our participation on this press conference possible.
