Rock 'N' Roll Radio is a Korean rock band formed back in 2011. So far Naehyun Kim (vocals and guitar), Jinkyu Kim (guitar and vocals), Minwoo Lee (bass and vocals) and Minkyu Choi (drums) gained many awards and traveled overseas with their music.
Last June the quartet toured in France and kindly took some time to answer our questions in this interview. Take a look at what Jinkyu, Minkyu and Minwoo had to tell us about their France tour, their soon-to-be gig in V-ROX festival and more.
Could you please introduce yourself to those who might not know you yet?
Jinkyu: Hi! We’re the Korean band Rock ‘N’ Roll Radio. Our band was formed in 2011 and plays very danceable music.
Minwoo: We’re a quartet with danceable rock ‘n’ roll rhythms and electronic sounds.
Recently you finished your first France tour. How did the it go?
Jinkyu: The tour went well. We played at Midem Festival in Cannes and had gigs in Saint Etienne and Paris too. We also spent three days recording some new music while we were in Paris. Our schedule for this tour was really tight but I think we performed well. France is a beautiful country!
Minwoo: It was really fun! We saw so many impressive things while we were there. And the audiences we played for were great. I’ll never forget how passionate they were.
Minkyu: All of our gigs were fun. And I’m really satisfied with the recording sessions we did. I’m really excited for the music we made in France to come out.
What did you do before leaving Korea to prepare for your France tour?
Jinkyu: A lot of our time before the tour was spent preparing for the recording sessions we did in France. And, of course, we practiced for our live performances too.
Minwoo: I studied how to say some sentences in French so that I could ask how to find the bathroom. That’s always important to know!
This time around, the group was only able to visit France. Are there any other countries you would like to perform in the future?
Jinkyu: I’d love the chance to tour everywhere we can. We’re going to play at V-Rox in Russia in late August. And we may go to the UK next year too but that’s not confirmed yet.
Minkyu: I really want to go the UK. I think the chance will come one day.
Your Shut Up and Dance album offers a smooth rock sound and has great potential to attract listeners of all ages. How do you usually create your songs?
Jinkyu: We usually make our songs by jamming together.
Minwoo: I think we make music that reflects the way we feel. We’re releasing a new EP in the fall and the style of the music is a little different from our previous work. Since we experience different feelings as we experience more and more new things, I think our music will also continue to change in a good way.
How would you describe your music?
Jinkyu: I think it’s good rock music to dance to. I like to call it neo psychedelic disco.
