Live report of Euthanasie's final European show in Utrecht, the Netherlands on December 22nd.
Euthanasie's last concert of their Delusion a go go!! ~EUROPE TOUR 2006~ took place in the Netherlands on December 22nd. After being on the road for about a month and performing more than fifteen times, they ended the tour with a performance in Ekko, Utrecht, at the 'Cyberia Dark XXX Mas' event. The event was actually a cybergoth event and Euthanasie would be the first band of three to start.
The audience was varied: most of them were dressed in shiny cybergoth outfits, though, there were a few goths, some punkers and a handful of gothic lolitas looking a little lost and out of place.
The concert started later than originally planned and the audience shyly drew a little nearer to the stage as Andro, N@o and #449 appeared. They started off with the first song, introducing the audience to their music: electronic beats and samples, some distorted guitar but yet with a cheerful sound to it, instead of an angry, aggressive sound which people seemed to expect from the band.
Although the people still seemed to be a bit unsure, some heads were bobbing along on the beat of the music and slowly, as they played song after song, the audience seemed to appreciate them more and more.
Andro, the vocalist, looked very confident as he stood on stage and sang. He was wearing a long, black lacquer dress with a shiny red obi tied around his waist. At some point he took out a black fan, moving it around him with quick twists of his wrist, emphasizing on the Japanese origins of the band.
The guitarist, N@o, stood mostly on the right side of the stage, dressed in a more plain outfit, a black t-shirt and some red make-up smudged on his mouth and eyes. He was mostly concentrating on his guitar playing instead of dancing like #449 was.
#449, behind his laptop and keyboard on the left side of the stage, was dancing on the beat of the music, moving his arms and legs while usually keeping one hand on the keyboard and singing backing vocals once in a while. He was also dressed in a lacquer outfit, a sleeveless vest and wore dark pants. His dancing was really cool, although without the music it would've looked a little funny, but his dancing style seemed to fit the music perfectly!
After a number of songs, Andro and N@o left the stage for a moment, in which #449 remained and took the opportunity to introduce the band. He also told the audience that their newest mini-album, Queer Chronicle, was completely sold out.
A little later the two other members appeared on stage again and Andro had changed his outfit for a kimono-like outfit with long sleeves with images of an embryo on them (they lighted up in the dark!) and an obi with planets on them.
After having started with three songs from their newest mini-album, they played some older songs then and the audience seemed to loosen up. An aggressive looking punk with a white mohawk mumbled something along the lines "this is much better than what I was expecting!" and a number of people started to dance.
During the songs, they introduced the members, receiving an applause for every member. Though, it seemed that Andro was a little confused with the language, and instead of Dutch or English, he started to talk in German "wir sind Euthanasie, danke schon!" (we’re Euthanasie, thank you very much). Instead of being annoyed, the audience seemed to be rather amused by it.
After another MC of #449, they started to play a cover: the song Enola Gay by OMD. The happy, quick melody from the keyboard was really cheerful and a lot of people started to dance along with the band, really enjoying themselves.
After another song, they ended with the song Adonis and then they had to leave the stage already. The audience, jokingly following Andro's example of speaking German, started to chant "zugabe, zugabe" (encore in German), but unfortunately the concert was really over and it was time for the next band to start.
Despite the fact that Euthanasie was a brand new band for many people that came that evening, they played an awesome show and managed to entertain the audience very well.
We're looking forward to see them back in Europe again!
