CODE7203-KineSicS

New band CODE7203-KineSicS formed last year with the concept of creating a ‘transparent-like sound.' Their first release, Kotonoha, gives an excellent introduction to this new addition to the visual kei scene, showcasing the band’s well-defined style perfectly.

The title track Kotonoha begins with the relaxing, calming sound of an electronic keyboard alongside upbeat rock-pop; slowly the music reaches a faster pace during the verses, where Yuugi’s drumming skills are made abundantly clear to the listener. As MAR’s melodic vocals signal the start of the chorus, the music takes on a slower pace once again and a somewhat sparkly sound is added to the song. The instrumental pieces between verses and choruses have a more pop feel. However, Shingo’s guitar solo reminds listeners of CODE7203-KineSicS’ firm visual kei rock roots. Overall, Kotonoha is a catchy, cheery song that is tinted with a distinct magical quality that will captivate one in an understated, subtle way.

Limit over starts with a heavy, powerful rock intro. As the fast-paced drumming and strong guitar ease off, a deep base line is coupled with MAR’s piercing vocals. This perfect contrast continues until some characteristic visual kei growling leads to the chorus, giving MAR the opportunity to show off his skills with longer notes and with the strong vocal tune to follow. Another well-constructed guitar solo soon follows, and the song then takes a more heavy metal direction while still carrying on a catchy, melodic feeling. Limit over allows the band to show its versatility in creating a song that is both catchy and powerful.

A PV of their previously released song Recall is also included on this maxi-single.

Kotonoha displays two sides of newcomers CODE7203-KineSicS while still retaining their key concept. Both tracks have a distinct feel, from cheery rock-pop to powerful, heavier rock, but both display a definite sense of a transparent, magical quality. This new band has much to offer the visual kei scene and shows more than enough talent to succeed in this already thriving genre.
