Angel in Heavy Syrup's music can be best described as an unusual mix of styles lying somewhere between psychedelic rock and simple pop, often compared to the musical movement of "Krautrock" in Germany in the mid 1970’s. The vocals sound as if they have been influenced by traditional Japanese music. The band's producer Hiroshige Jojo who was famous for making "Guitar/Noise-Terror", gave them musical freedom on his Alchemy Records label. This led to AIHS developing their innovative style, and becoming very different to the style of their mentors.
Some critics said that their meditative-progressive rock became so airy, that they expected it to "mix up with the ether".
