Unlike many of the contemporary visual kei bands, GHOST did not aim at a nu-metal/hardcore sound. Instead, they created their own universe made up of energetic yet melodic pieces. Their songs often contained influences of gothic and horror, yet they were never aggressive. They just had a very dark, leaden atmosphere.
Despite the fact GHOST was newcomer to the scene, their sound was polished and of high quality. It could also be described as rather old-school visual kei, due to its heavy accented-melodies, the prominent place of the rhythm section and a charismatic singer whose voice stood out as having a distinctive timbre.
