WaT were a folk pop duo, formed in 2002 by then-teenagers Eiji Wentz and Teppei Koike. Their name is an acronym of Wentz and Teppei. Starting out as an acoustic guitar duo, putting on street performances in Tokyo's Yoyogi Park, they were picked up by Univeral Music Group in 2005.
After a run of eight top-ten singles, including the chart-topping Ready Go!, the duo cut back activities as WaT in 2008 to focus on solo and TV work. They made fleeting comebacks in 2010 and 2015 before officially disbanding on February 11th, 2016.
