Vocal duo ClariS started life in 2009 as Alice★Clara, when two Hokkaidoan schoolfriends began uploading songs to video streaming site Nico Nico Douga. These proved popular enough for them to be picked up by Sony in 2010. They have since come to specialise in anime theme songs. The girls have shied away from publicly revealing their identities, preferring to be portrayed by illustrated avatars, and wearing masks when on tour.
