Formed in November 2015 with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in mind, Tokyo-rickshaw is a unit made up of "shafu" (rickshaw pullers) who aim to promote the Japanese “jinrikisha” (rickshaw) tradition and the concept of Japanese “omotenashi” (hospitality) through music and acrobatic performances.
Tokyo-rickshaw has appeared on many TV shows, radio programmes and various types of events, and collaborated with famous Japanese celebrities. Hamaguchi Kyoko, a bronze medalist in women’s wrestling in the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympics, appeared in the music video for RUN!, Tokyo-rickshaw's first digital distribution limited song that was released in July 2016.
