Kalen, latin spelling due to lack of "l" in Japanese is also spelled as "karen" in romanji, was an indie Visual Kei band. Their concept was simple: life and death. It may sound scary but in reality Kalen's sound was simply melodic rock and not really gloomy at all.
Their image was pretty 'regular' VK: fancy, colourful costumes with countless layers and accessories, dyed hair, make up, etc. Originally was definitely not their strongest point, but whatever they lacked in this field, they absolutely made up for during their performances.
Kalen was definitely a quality live band - not only did they sound good, they also created a strong rapport with their audience. Their live performances were always filled with fun, jokes, and their furitsuke (gestures performed from the stage and copied by the audience) led by Nao were some of the most complicated on the scene.
