New Digital EP from COMA-CHI

Hip-hop artist COMA-CHI released a new EP today.

Titled Spiritual Bitch, the release was created in collaboration with Brooklyn-based artist MeccaGodZilla. Its sound is said to continue the fusion of Japanese tradition, hip-hop, and spirituality that was shown in her previous works, while the title is said to "express the strong, fierce, and spiritually discerning heart that women can embody as they continue to navigate an ever-changing, and sometimes toxic, male dominated world".

The lead single Watch Your Mouth is said be influenced by the ancient Japanese motif of "kotodama", as well as the importance of women protecting their hearts from the negative words of others and "breaking the chains of self invalidation". The song also got a preceding release as an NFT in the Metaverse via DAO Records on May 25th.

The Spiritual Bitch EP is available worldwide on all major digital streaming platforms.

MeccaGodZilla became an avid supporter of COMA-CHI's while living in Tokyo in 2010 and 2012, and he enthusiastically pitched the idea of working together. He commented:

"I'm honored to collaborate with COMA-CHI. I know she's kinda like a Japanese blend of MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, and Lauryn Hill and is a pioneer in her own right that has encouraged countless other women to rap and sing in the Japanese hip-hop scene. I couldn't wait to work with her and as I grew more spiritually and saw her music evolve more spiritually over the years it was a no-brainer to reach out to her through a good friend to see if we can make some magic happen. Thankfully for me, COMA-CHI was 100% with it and working with her was the most fun I’ve had working with any artist to date - she’s amazing to work with."

A pioneer of Japan's hip-hop scene, COMA-CHI made history by becoming the first female finalist in the B-Boy park MC battle (one of the largest hip-hop competitions in Japan) in 2005. In 2011, she founded her own music label, Queen's Room, and in 2018 she recorded her first all-English song Water. In recent years, her works have begun to incorporate more influences from Japanese culture, astrology and spirituality.
